Session summary
The session will demonstrate the power of effectively collecting data on sexual orientation and trans identities, how that can elevate our ability to communicate community experiences, and how we can use this to influence policy makers. The talk will focus on specific examples, including the 2021 England & Wales Census, as well LGBT Foundation's on data collection within its wellbeing services. This will be tied together with some suggestions for effective story-telling and persuasion techniques when talking to public policy decision makers.
Biography
Tom Montrose-Moss (he/him) is LGBT Foundation's Head of Insight & Performance, leading data analysis and community insight work for the past seven years. Projects have included 2021 census work, national LGBTQ+ helpline projects, studying the efficacy of domestic abuse, substance use, and mental health interventions for LGBTQ+ communities, leading voter registration campaigns, and submitting consultations and evidence on LGBTQ+ health inequalities to local & national government, the NHS, and the UN. Tom is also experienced in direct service delivery on LGBTQ+ helplines and safeguarding functions for the past three years.
